Coordinating Hands

2023

Photography is the process of translating three-dimensional reality into a two-dimensional plane. I perceive this as a creative endeavor of transforming reality into data and visualizing it. Through the selection of subjects, framing, and other data selection processes, I convert reality into visually compelling images on a flat plane, and all these processes ultimately culminate at the fingertips.

I have observed the movements of hands, easily found in daily life, and aimed to visualize them as meaningful data. I believe that the collaborative movements of both hands serve as the foundation for various creative activities of humans. Through this project, I wanted to document everyday reality as data and experience the process of transforming that data into visually and meaningfully appealing assets.

Various Hand Movements

Typing/ Banknote Counting/ Tearing Paper/ Origami/ Coin Counting/ Lego Assembling

Various hand movements observable in the surroundings were filmed under consistent conditions to create videos for objective movement comparisons. Capturing a total of six coordinated hand movements, I extracted the motion patterns of each hand gesture.

1. Typing

2. Banknote Counting

3. Tearing Paper

4. Origami

5. Coin Couting

6. Lego Assembling

Through the collaborative comparison of these diverse hand movements, it is possible to identify the characteristics and differences of each action. The movement patterns of each action can be explored for potential applications in various fields such as industry, education, and healthcare.

Based on the patterns extracted from each hand movement coordination, I created posters. Below are the results.
